Converge is the name of Digitro's solution for
network convergence. With Converge all remote
sites of a company can be linked, thus forming a
corporate network. It uses the VoIP (Voice over
IP) and the VoFR (Voice over Frame Relay)
technologies to integrate voice and data in a
single transmission medium. In addition to
making communications faster, the Converge
solution provides a transmission medium
optimization and a significant reduction of
company costs related to telephony and data.
The Converge solution implements a voice
codification and compression resource based on
standards such as G.729 and G.723, which
results in a lower bandwidth usage for each voice
channel carried by the corporate network, thus
promoting a rational use of the band provided in
the interconnection links.
All available
technological resources, such as silence
suppression through Voice Activity Detection
(VAD), echo cancellation and comfort noise
generation provide a better quality in
communication and bandwidth use optimization.
For VoIP, techniques like the RTP header
compression can be activated, taking advantages
like a rational resource utilization and money
savings.

The system also has
management and supervision
features for links and network
interfaces, allowing for
configuration, monitoring and
performance evaluation. Such
feature, known as Converge
Management System, has
functionalities such as viewing the
bandwidth used by voice and data and
the traffic in the corporate network,
creating a history of information that
contributes in making decisions related to
topology changes, link upgrade, etc.
The
system can also monitor existing failures and
check platform hardware items such as memory,
CPU and disk usage. It's an essential tool for the
corporate network operation and also helps to plan
network gowth.
The classification of different traffic types in the
corporate network, with different priorities, is possible
with QoS policies of the Converge solution, which is based
on the ToS field mark-up in the IP header. This provides
the system with the possibility to value important tr affic
in the network, such as voice and ERP system, and
prevent that services such as FTP and the Worldwide
Web use all the available bandwidth.
